Chronology of the Kornhaus Bern

1711 - 1718
Newly-built as the "Grosses Kornhaus" ("Big Corn House") of the Republic of Bern, a market hall and storage house for grain and wine.

1895 - 1898
Alteration and reuse as the Gewerbemuseum (Industrial Design Museum) with exhibition rooms and gallery floor in the style of an industrial architecture with steel construction.

1975 - 1980
Exterior renovation with restoration of the facades and window openings to their condition when the building was originally-erected.

1997 - 1998
Interior renovation to fulfill the new-use concept of the building as an open center for Media and Design with spaces for exhibitions, events, a theater, libraries, gourmet dining, etc.
